Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a minor infection on my cheek (a spot or two) and decided to check it out, then I looked deeper towards the back of my throat and saw what I initially thought to be something stuck to my palate like a cumin seed. Upon further inspection however, I realized it s probably a hole. It moves (gets bigger, gets smaller, or disappears) depending on my mouth muscle control and movement and I was able to poke it with a toothpick and didn t feel anything and it seemed to get wider. I never felt it before but now that I see it and know it s there, I can definitely feel it. I took a picture of it. More info: perhaps 2 months ago I had a really bad cold with high fever that lasted for about a week and a half. I beat it with Ibuprofen but the sore throat and mucus coming down my throat never really went away. Now my throat still is a bit sore and I still get lots of mucus at the back. I got a minor infection near my bottom right wisdom tooth 1 day ago, I think it s unrelated but that s why I was looking around my throat.
Based on the history you have shared, this hole can be Eustachian tube opening or there are several openings in mucosal surfaces which are normal but poking it repeatedly may lead to trauma or infection spread so better be avoided.
For reassurance an ENT specialist review and detailed throat examination is recommended.
Meanwhile, OTC analgesics like Acetaminophen for pain if comes and anti histamines like Cetirizine or decongestants can be used. Saline water gargles are good too.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
