How Can Soreness In The Mouth Be Treated?

4 yr old, on amoxicillin for ear infection, swollen gland on his right side. Has developed a very sore mouth resulting in inability to eat most foods. Sore for him to even touch his cheeks. Is the amoxicillin causing this even though he has had it before. Just an FYI...hand, foot and mouth is going around.

Hi Dear,

Soreness in mouth seems to be due to stoamtitis, its a viral infection of oral cavity which occur due to poor oral hygiene, stress and poor immunity of body. I would suggest you to take anti viral drugs such as Acyclovir 200 mg for five days. Apply ice on sores and brush teeth very slowly and gently. Symptoms will resolve in one week. If symptoms keep son persisting visit oral physician once and get complete examination done. Apply topical antimicrobial ointment on gums . Avoid salty, spicy and sharp food. Eat yogurt in diet. Dab small amount of milk of magnesia .

Best Wishes,
