How Can Soreness In The Thumbs And Wrist Be Treated?

I have a very sore thumb and wrist for the last 2 months. I injured it pulling up on a frozen garbage can top! I have tried heat, it feels good but does not alleviate the soreness. I have had a chriopractor work on it, also had accupuncture/cupping on it. What do you suggest?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per your description, you probably have sprain or contusion. No need to worry, most cases resolve well with conservative management. You can take analgesics, like Paracetamol or Ibuprofen for pain. Apply ice packs on the affected area. Immobilize the affected hand preferably in a cast or sling. If symptoms persists, then consult an orthopedician and get evaluated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
