How Can Swelling And Cracks On The Lips Be Treated?

89 year old lady that has swollen cracking feverish lips and is anemic with severe low iron. She had a slight stroke a year ago. No energy weighs about 110 lbs. She needs to have scope for acid reflux but can t do it cause blood is low. Doc ignores anemia, no treatment, just tells her to keep coming to check it every few weeks.

Thanks for the query..

Swelling and cracking of lips when already diagnosed with severe anaemia can be due to Iron deficiency and other nutritional deficiencies..

Soy suggestion is to consult a Haematologist and get evaluated..

Proper Iron supplementation can be done along with investigation of vitamin B12, folate levels and can be managed accordingly..

Also apply thick coat of petroleum jelly over the lips and do cool compresses to reduce swelling and inflammation..

Give her nutritious diet and sufficient water..
