How Can Swelling And Infection On The Cuticles Be Treated?

HELLO Doc... i bite my nails, and now realize that my cuticle have been infected, having swollen and battered blood went to the Doc she pooked an hole small amount of oozing now its still swollen puffy and black n blue the Doctor prescribed Econaderm and Cataflam meds... not sure how long before the oozing comes out.what should i do.

Hello,

Perhaps you have acute paronychia which is infection of the nail fold- swelling and oozing are signs of infection. I suggest you to take an oral antibiotic e.g either Amoxycillin or Cephalexin, for a week. You may continue with the oral anti-inflammatory prescribed by your doctor. However I would suggest you to apply a antifungal along with antibacterial combination cream e.g Neosporin ointment, twice daily for a few days.
