Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
How Can Swelling And Inflammation On The Legs Be Treated?
My 83 year old mother is at my house for Thanksgiving. She lifted her pant leg to scratch her leg, and I realized that she her foot and leg are swollen and red. She has a sore spot on the top of her foot that is oozing, and the rest of the foot is tender and swollen. She had makeshift bandages wrapped around the foot and leg, so I had her soak in warm water and Dove body wash to peel off the bandages and get a good look at the foot. It looks ulcerated and the skin is peeling. She is struggling to wear a shoe, so I put Neosporin on the wound and used paper tape to cover the sore spot with gauze. I had her take 2 Ibprofin and she is resting with her foot elevated. I can t get her to a Doctor tonight, but I am planning to call her GP first thing in the morning. What else should I do?
Thanks for your question. I do understand your pain and discomfort. I have seen many cases with similar complaints. My advice is to first do these investigations to confirm the disease:
1) Full blood count with differential
2) Fasting blood sugar, TSH, Liver and renal function test,D-Dimmer 3) ECG/ECHO
I hope I was able to address your query. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to write to me.
Wishing you all the best.
Thanks, Dr. Uday Nath Sahoo
