Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My daughters friend says she bruised her arm several days ago. It is swollen, very warm, and a solid red center, white circle, then outer red circle. And when I say warm to touch, it is very warm even after she held an ice pack to it for quite a while. Doesn t seem normal to me. Is she OK to wait til Monday to see a doctor?
Hi, I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.
No, she should not wait till that since it indicates possible celulitis which is serious soft tissue infection that should be treated with intravenous antibiotics and arm immobilization. This can happen after injury, bite or even without obvious cause. This is worst scenario of course but you need to be very caotious about this to prevent further complications. Also, she should be given nonsteroid painkillers and rest with arm. Also, apply cold compresses and keep arm elevated. But most improtant thing is to start antibiotics as soon as possible.
Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.
