How Can Swelling And Pain In The Right Knee Be Treated?

I just fell in the kitchen while holding my 15 mo. old. In an effort to keep her unharmed, I fell with full force on my right knee. It is now quite sore, swollen & numb just below the knee (feels like it was injected with lidocaine). I do not see any obvious fractures but am wondering if I should have it looked at? Tonight in ER? Family doc tomorrow?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It might have had trivial trauma since the whole body weight might have fallen on that. In such situations, we can say what could have gone wrong without x-ray or MRI.

Nothing very serious but get these investigation done to find if there is any fracture, meniscal tear or any nerve injury causing you pains and swellings. If there is anything then we can treat accordingly.

For now, you can take any painkiller to subside the infection like paracetamol, diclofenac, tramadol, pethidine etcetera.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Archana
