How Can Swelling And Pain In The Small Toe Be Treated?

I believe I broke my pinky toe 9 days ago. I iced it, used ibuprofen & elevated it for the first few days. The pain subsided after about two days & the swelling went down while bruising spread & dissipated. Yesterday, day 8, the swelling became worse & now it is very painful. The bruising is still minimal compared to the first couple of days. The top of the joint & outer side of the toe are numb to the touch. The only relief I have is when icing & elevating it now. It feels like the pain is traveling up the outside of my ankle & lower leg sometimes but I think this may be psychological because I am stressing about it now. Is this normal or should I see a doctor? I m told there isn t much more to be done by friends, family & from what I gather online but I am getting concerned. Could I have a blood clot from it? Any educated responses are appreciated. Thank you in advance.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Since you have been diagnosed with a fractured 5th toe, an XRay must have been taken. The most important treatment for faster and pain-free healing is --Non weight bearing till fracture heals which may be about 4 weeks or so; keeping the feet elevated as much as is possible to reused swelling. If the fracture is more than just hairline, strapping it to the 4th toe will help stabilize the fracture site. It would be good if you could get yourself reviewed once in 2 to 3 weeks by a surgeon to assess the progress. Please only start normal activities after the doctor informs you that the fracture is now united well.
