How Can Swelling Around The Index Finger Be Treated?

I was throwing away some heavy scrap metal. I had on leather gloves and the index finger on the glove caught the metal and pulled or twisted my finger. the glove or finger wasn t cut just felt like it got yanked pretty hard. I pretty much have full movement and doesn t seem to be dislocated or broken but some swelling around the joint. With full movement should it be a concern. Doesn t really hurt other than when moving it, which feels like mostly from some swelling.

Hello,

It doesn't seem that you have broken your finger but there seems to be soft tissue injury which is causing the pain and swelling. I will advise you to ice the finger and restrict the movement of the finger for a few days.

You can also take over the counter painkiller like Advil which will help to relieve the pain and swelling. If you are not relieved by the above steps, get an X-ray done and consult an orthopedic surgeon.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
