How Can Swelling In The Left Foot Be Treated?

I care for my 94 year old mother who developed swelling in left foot and calf area about 4 to 5 days ago, her doctor said yesterday to keep elevated and wear compression stockings, which both were done last night and all day today. When taking stockings off for night swelling is much worse and now consumes for knee, she has an apt for Tuesday, but her calf is very tender tonight which is new. I m debating what else to do, she will not go to er without argument this time on Friday night, but not sure if I should just wait and give it another day.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Unilateral leg swelling may be due to cellulitis or deep venous thrombosis.
You have get it done color Doppler of lower limb then get treated accordingly. If she had DVT need anti thrombotic measures, if cellulitis need antibiotics.

Hope I have answered your query.
