How Can Swelling In The Leg With Shortness Of Breath Be Treated?
Have pitting edema on left calf through ankle. Right calf has edema; not so pronounced. Lt. foot painful; Drs. have R/O break, sprain; have wrapped leg to reduce swelling after 3rd week of this condition. Hx of PE, both lobes in 10, hiatal hernia (never know what is causing my shortness of breathe--maybe being overweight would be an answer despite exercising 3-6X a week. Such is life of a 73 year old!
I went through your query, your both problems i.e. pitting edema and shortness of breath are related to each other. The only way to alleviate is to treat the root cause of it. Besides your regular medication you can follow this:
1) Try reducing your weight its never too late.
2) Elevate your leg while laying down.
3) You can get your Doctor to prescribe you anti-inflammatory medications which will relieve swelling.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Moses John Wesley,
General & Family Physician
