A friend just text me, her Dr., changed her B/P medication from Amlodipine to half of 2.5 Iosaltan because her legs were swelling up, she now says this pill isn t working? When should she do now. PS I ve enclosed her email, so you can directly speak to her. She also needs someone whom can speak Spanish, should that matter. Thanking you in advance. A.M.S.
Hello Dear. One of the most common side effect of amlodipine is leg swelling. So the doctor might have prescribed alternative medicine as losartan, which is also effective. But in case the blood pressure is not coming down, one reason may be lack of diet control- which includes more salt in the diet, lack of physical exercise, irregularity in taking medicines etc. If there are no issues of above factors then she should consult the doctor again who may change the medication to other antihypertensives like Aten, Clinidipine etc, or may add a drug like diuretics etc. Kindly let her follow up with her doctor.
Hope i have answered your question. Feel free to contact me if you have any more questions. I ll be glad to help you. All the best With warm regards Dr Sanjay Kini
