How Can Swelling On The Leg Due To Pinched Nerve Be Treated?

My husband seems to have a pinched nerve in his right low back but is also having quite a bit of visible swelling, inflammation and redness discoloration in his right leg especially his ankle. Prior to this pain he had been driving in a car for 6 hours. He is also having heel pain especially with walking. Thoughts on this and do we need to be concerned about the swelling and reddish discoloration in his leg/ankle? Thanks!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

This must be due to stasis of blood in his lower legs and dependant edema due to his long driving.

Ask him to keep his legs raised during sleep to reduce the clogging and take baby aspirin 75 mg post meals once a day for 3 days.

He can put a crepe bandage too. If it does not improve, see a vascular specialist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr AJEET SINGH, General & Family Physician
