How Can Swollen Lymph Nodes And Headache Be Treated?

Hi I was seen yesterday by nurse who said I have flu and prescribed bed rest. I can t lift my head off the pillow as my neck (glands) are huge and my throat is extremely sore. I am struggling to swallow as it is so painful. I also have a headache right on my forehead above my nose. My temperature has come down from 39 to 37 with two hourly paracetamol and ibuprofen but it s not touching the pain. Do I need to go back to see doctor?

Hello Dear. you have got pharyngitis. You need to consult a doctor who may prescribe you a coarse of antibiotics like amox or azithral.

To answer you in detail:

Home care includes:

1. drinking plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration
2. eating warm broth
3. gargling with warm salt water (1 tsp. salt per 8 oz. water)
4. using a humidifier
5. resting until you feel better
6. For pain and fever relief, consider taking over-the-counter medication such as acetaminophen (Tylenol) or ibuprofen (Advil). Throat lozenges may also be helpful in soothing a painful, scratchy throat.

Alternative remedies are sometimes used to treat pharyngitis. However, you should contact your doctor before using them to avoid drug interactions or other health complications. Some of the most commonly used herbs include:

1. honeysuckle
2. licorice
3. marshmallow root
4. sage
5. slippery elm

Medical Treatment:

In some cases, medical treatment is necessary for pharyngitis. This is especially the case if it’s caused by a bacterial infection. For such instances, your doctor will prescribe antibiotics.

Hope i have answered your question. Feel free to contact me if you have any more questions. I ll be glad to help you.
All the best
With warm regards
