How Can Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction Be Treated?
I have TMJ but it's typically not an issue. However, sometimes during a dental procedure, when I'm told to close my mouth I need a moment for my brain to communicate with my mouth and then I'm able to close. This was the case recently and I'm assuming my oral surgeon didn't realize I held my finger up indicating to wait a minute. Next thing I know it appeared the oral surgeon was in a wrestling match pulling and grabbing my jaw. It was frightening to say the least not knowing what he was doing. I thought he was going to break my jaw. Afterward he told me I had a muscle spasm and mentioned the jaw trembling at the end of the episode which I did feel. Still very confused as to what he was doing and wondering had he just given me a moment my jaw may have relaxed on it's own. Any idea what occurred?
It looks like your jaw dislocated during the dental procedure and the Oral Surgeon tried to reduce it to the original position.. So my suggestion is to consult your Oral Surgeon and get yourself evaluated so that he can take a Panoromic x ray and can rule out the problem so that apprpriate treatment can be done to avoid episodes of dislocation in future..
Hope this helps..
Regards..
