I am a 70 year old white femsle. I am on no regular medications. I am 5 2 110 Ibs with no seriots health Problems.I took color two months ago for a UTI. I developed a painful case of tendonitis, with severe cramping in my lower legs, toes, and feet. That has subsided. However, the pain has moved to my neck and right shouder. Last week I began taking 800 mg of Aleve a day. This has helped reduce my pain greatly. However, I have been reading about the side effects of NSAIDS and am afraid to keep this treatment plan. What do you suggest?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Persistent or high dose use of NSAIDs can cause problems, they can potentially affect the kidneys or contribute to heart disease. If they are used intermittently or at a reduced dose, then the risk is a lot lower. Aleve/Ibuprofen is one of the safer of the meds because it is short acting, it is often used in doses higher than what you are currently using. If not used daily and used at the dose that you are using, it should be okay unless you have previous conditions that prevent you from using this type of medication.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James
