How Can The Completion Of An Abortion Be Confirmed?

Hello doctor, I took cytotec two weeks ago to induce an abortion and I only bled for a day. One week later the bleeding started again and three days after it started again, I experienced very heavy bleeding that lasted for a few hours. Nine days later and I m still bleeding but normally this time. Does this mean that the abortion was complete?

Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I have read your description and understand your concern.
Following intake of abortion pills, bleeding could continue intermittently or more often for about 4 to 6 weeks.
To know weather abortion process is complete or not, you need to take an ultrasound scan of abdomen. It will state weather all the products of conception has been expelled or not.
In case some products have been retained and bleeding gets prolonged, you would need to undergo a procedure called dilatation and curettage (D & C).
Kindly consult Gynecologist with the ultrasound scan report for clinical evaluation and appropriate management.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
