How Can The Hemogram Test Report Be Interpreted?

Sir, The remarks column of my mother s haemogram report says:- RBCs:Moderate anisocytosis mild poikilocytosis. Predominantly normocytic normochromic with ovalocytes. WBCs:Mild Leukopenia is present . The Iron Deficiency Profile report states:- Iron - 79 TIBC - 326 Transferrin saturation - 24%. The Reticulocyte count result is awaited. My mother (73) has been taking calcium & iron supplements (capsules & tonic) for more than a year now, though those had been stopped 2-3 weeks prior to this test. But the Hb% has been hovering between 9.5-10.5. She inhales Fullform 200 Rotacap once daily. Other medicines prescribed are Met XL 25 & Cilacar T. Regards

Hi,

Your iron profile is within range. So you are recovering from iron deficiency anemia. In anemia due to hemoglobinopathy usually hemoglobin value doesn't improve with iron medication and it remain around 10.

You can investigate with HB electrophoresis by HPLC method to exclude any hemoglobinopathy if present. Kindly mention your clinical complaint if present to give further comment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
