How Can The Soft And Tender Ankle Lump Be Treated?

i got hit with a ball just above my ankle and the large soft bump isn't going away. my entire foot was bruised (purple) but never really hurt. just the bump hurts. this happened one week ago. why is the bump still there and why is it so soft and very tender? thanks, tricia
