Hi, I ve been ill for over a month now, I ve had multiple infections, throat infection, ear infection and chest infection. I had a heavy dose of antibiotics to be taken for ten days, been taking pain killers but still I m not getting better. I have a very painful back of tongue where it connects to my throat it s mainly on my left side of my face, my left ear is also incredibly painful. I m having difficulty swallowing even liquids and my throat and under jaw are tender and feel swollen. I m in a lot of pain and really exhausted i just want to get well, but antibiotics haven t seemed to be helping me.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

If antibiotic treatment has not improved your symptoms, and symptoms have been unchanged or have been worsening, affecting pain in your ear, sinus, tonsils and chest, I suspect there are inflammation likely secondary to viral disease.

You may want to try a burst dose of oral steroid which is strong anti-inflammatory medication to see if this reduces inflammation and reduce such pain and symptoms.

Based on what you described especially with your extreme fatigue and no adequate response from antibiotics.

I also suspect influenza (flu) might have been the underlying cause of your illness which can explain your prolonged duration of illness.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
