How Can Tinnitus With Hearing And Sound Problems Be Treated?

ear hearing/sound problems. Hello I have been trying to understand what and why this was happening for almost 2 years now. I have seen a specialist, and have done most every possible test. –rather unfortunate experience all together. The only explanation I have received from the doctor’s assistant was “tinnitus” Regardless, I would like to have a better understand of my ear problem and if there is anything I can do to prevent/protect my hearing -The incidents happen anywere from twice a month to once every three months. Each time, it lasts for several days. During the beginning days, I become very sensitive to sound. Everything is too loud for the right ear, especially the low frequencies/base sounds. At first the noise is slow, more like heart-beat. Next, the (blinking +drum-roll-like) noise attacks start, with inconsistent but frequent attacks. Each segment last for several seconds with a second or so 2 intervals of quiet in between. This can go on for hours/day before it dies out. During the pick days, the music I play or listen to is out of tune. I can clearly pick up the overtones ( multiple layers of pitches) in the high register both on a recording or in my own singing) ((((I am almost hesitant to say that I am a musician))) I am convinced this is not the course of the problem. -When I blink, I hear the action sound loudly in my ears. It is something that I can manipulate depending on how “hard” I blink (if that makes sense??) -When I tap on the chin, I can tell that there is a lot more resonance (noise) in the right ear. -Also, I have noticed that often times the symptoms come back when I am coming down with a flue, cold or might have access fluid in the ear. -I also almost always get headaches if I leave my hair wet for the past 15 years. Could the ear issue be connected to a similar cold symptoms?

Otolaryngologist / ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

What was your audiometric test result? Further if you are a musician, you may get exposed to louder than usual sound energies. Louder sounds are detrimental to Hearing health for your ears. Further cold and naso-respiratory conditions are likely to add to the problem.

General advice:

1. avoid exposure to loud sound energies
2. use ear muffs to protect you hearing esp at places of loud sounds
3. don't hear with ear phones, handsfree, head phones etc.
4. avoid conditions causing cold or flu like symptoms.
5. do some yogs or meditation and
6. engage in some physical exercises

Next step; Audiometric tests

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
