How Can Toenail Pain With Positional Difference Be Treated?

Last year I had an ingrown toenail, my Doc pulled it up and stuffed cotton under it and said let it grow. She said I cut it too short. So now my nail is grown out and it is curving from left to right and lifting off my nail bed. Like there is a space between my nail and my nail bed. It hurts to wear shoes or if I put any pressure on the nail. I've looked at pics of Pincer Nails and that's kind of what it looks like..What can I do to relieve the pain and get rid of this.
