Hi, I had a bad cold for about a week, and for the past 2 weeks I've been getting over it quite well and it's nearly completely gone. But just yesterday the back of my tongue started to hurt. It's only the farthest back left bit of it, and it's like a dull ache. I asked my friend about this and he said it's happened to him before and you can either get a prescripted antibiotic, or let it go away on its own. Is there an over-the-counter type medicine/drug I would be able to get instead of Roxithomycine (I'm terrified of going to the doctor's).
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns....
As per your complain pain in back region of the tongue can be due to inflammation of the Circumvallate papillae that are present at the back of the tongue and it seems probably due to viral infection causing inflammation due to cold.. Nothing to worry about it as it will be resolved soon as the infection will reside completely.. You can do warm saline gargles, avoid spicy and hot foods and also gargle with a numbing mouthwash containing Lignocaine.. You can also take Ibuprofen to relieve pain and inflammation.. In case of no improvement n 3 to 4 days consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora..
