How Can Tooth Infection Be Treated?

Hi, my name is Shanda. I have an infected tooth that I believe has been the cause of my sinus infection for the past few weeks. I have state insurance and am currently a few states away. Do I have time to wait before it gets serious? Or should I go to the Emergency room or try to see a dentist?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain infection in upper back teeth can cause infection in sinuses as the floor of maxillary sinuses lies very close to the root tips of upper teeth and at times the tips are almost inside the sinuses an infection progressing from the root tips to the area below the root tips there can also be infection in sinuses..
I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like PNS view x ray or MRI scan can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..

You can be advised a course of antibiotics, anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen, decongestants like Pseudoephadrine, do saline nasal irrigation, steam inhalation and use a humidifier in your room..
You can also be advised decongestant nasal sprays containing Xylometazoline or Oxymetazoline..
Avoid spicy and chilled foods..
Do warm compresses around nostrils..

If tooth is decayed consult a Dentist and get evaluated and he can do an x ray and if tooth can be saved root canal treatment can save the tooth and if tooth is grossly decayed extraction is advisable..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
