How Can Trigeminal Neuralgia Be Treated?

No questions, but let me tell you, I had an electoral shock in my jaw, lips for weeks before going to my numerologist who prescribed 200 mg tablets 2 times a day. He said that I had a damaged nerve and the medical name was Trigeminal Neuralgja. He also said that I could reduce the dosage over time. It worked well and I am now down to 1/2 tablet per day. No more electrical shocks and I never had any of the listed side effects

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Trigeminal neuralgia can be treated by:
1. Medical management (Carmabazepine)
2. Microvascular decompression or
3. Gamma knife radiosurgery
Carbamazepine is the most effective drug used to treat trigeminal neuralgia. Since you've responded well even with half of the actual dose prescribed so continue taking it as prescribed.

However, you need to have periodic complete blood count and liver function tests during as agranulocytosis, plastic anemia, and liver dysfunction can occur as adverse effects of Carbamazepine.

There's no cure for trigeminal neuralgia, but treatment can help improve your symptoms. The pain typically runs in cycles, and it is common to experience periods of remission. Remission can last for weeks, months, and even years.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
 Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
