Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was taking Bydureon once a week . I recently found out tha this medicine causes tumors in the throat. So I stopped taking it two weeks ago and have been monitoring it. I still take insulin every night. My sugars in the am have been 127/178. I just took my sugar and it is 278. Should I give myself insulin now or wait until tonight
hi sir/mam, bydureon is studied to cause thyroid cancer in experimental animals.so, it is not recommended in the following high risk categories like : 1)those with a family history of thyroid cancers 2)those suffering from or with a family history of multiple endocrine neoplastic syndrome 2. 3)not recommended to patients with moderate to severe kidney dysfunction. so, if you have any association with the above mentioned criteria, then you need to stop taking the drug.otherwise you can safely use it.moreover, you need to consult the prescribing physician and discuss before you stop any medicine.regarding insulin, for sugar levels of 278,we instruct our patients to take insulin by just reducing 2 units of the regular dose.hope you get my point.other health queries to be answered if any, please let me know.its my pleasure to be of any help to you.thank you.take care.bye.
