How Can Ulcerative Colitis Be Treated?

Hi my husband had been diagnosed with ulcerative colitis years ago, however has not been on any medication for over 20+ years and has not had any major flare ups like the present until this week. Today he has a fever 100.4 and blood pressure is high. His hands and knee joints are also sore and of course blood in stool. When do I force him to go to the doctor?
