How Can Uterine Cancer Be Treated?

I am 67 yrs old and was diagnosed with uterine cancer, I underwent hysterectomy 2 weeks ago, still waiting for the biopsy result to know which stage is my cancer. My doctors said during the surgery they had difficulty removing my lymph nodes, they also checked my liver and other organs, they said all are okay. There initial diagnosis is Stage 1. I am afraid to do radiotherapy and chemo therapy, because I am not that healthy, I have hypertension and diabetes. Is it necessary to do it if its only stage 1 cancer? they already removed everything (uterus, fallopian, ovaries, cervix).

Hi,

As your initial diagnosis is stage 1 uterine cancer, it means that the cancer is only growing in the body of the uterus. It may also be growing into the glands of the cervix but is not growing into the supporting connective tissue of the cervix.

The cancer has not spread to lymph nodes or distant sites. I have gone through your question and I understand your concern. Stage I cancers that have been staged with surgery may not need any further treatment.

For some patients, especially those with higher grade tumors, doctors are more likely to recommend radiation after surgery. If your doctor thinks that the lymph nodes were deep seated, he or she may go for radiation therapy.

You need to talk to your doctor otherwise it is always better to go for radiation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
