How Can Vaginal Itching Be Treated?

Hello. I had BV about three weeks ago I took the gel and it went away for a week. The follow week I came on my cycle. I was very light so I was using a tampon and since I was light I kept the tampon in all day. So basically each fay of my cycle I only use one tampon bc I kept it on all day. Depending on the lightness/heaviness of my cycle I will change my tampon twice a day, but I would keep one in for at least 8 hours which 8 hours is over the hour limit your supposed to keep a tampon in because the tamping boxes say to keep a tampon in for 2-4 hours. Okay so I got to my last day of being on my cycle and I had sex with my boyfriend unprotected. Two to three days later I started smelling fishy and I immediately knew I prolly had BV again so I was proscribed BV gel again and I ve been on the medication for three days now and I have been itchy down there like crazy and it almost feels like I m real itchy between the lips like right in the opening! I m not sure if I m itching because of the gel leaking out and me wearing my panties all day and that s what s making it irritated. My question is, is it normal to be itchy during the medication. I did not have this itchiness the first time I use the gel for the BV. Also my other question is, do you think it s possible that I could ve gotta BV again due to me leaving my tampon in for long hours or because I had sex while I was on my period or both?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Dear mam
I is quite a possibility that we are having a infection here.Typical symptoms like fishy smelling discharge and itching in and around the lips suggest of anaerobic infection.
Please dont worry as it can be treated easily with a topical antifungal cream gel and an oral antibiotics.More over please take care of the vulval hygiene with proper douching with antiseptic agents and do have a nutritious diet with plenty of fluids.Need less to say you can also educate your partner regarding the same.
Hope this helps
