Hello,
Welcome to Healthcare Magic.
I have read your question fully and understand your concerns.
Vertigo is a symptom – it is not a disease or a condition. There are several causes of vertigo. If your doctor can diagnose the reason for your vertigo, then treatment can be tailored to that end.
Vertigo can be due to many reasons – it could be due to BPPV (Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo). The cause of BPPV is unclear. The balancing organs of the body are deep inside your inner brain, almost near to the brain – they include 3 semi-circular canals and
otolith organs. These otolith organs have some crystals which makes the body sensitive to effects of gravity. When these crystals get dislodged, they cause spinning sensation which is the Vertigo. Here vertigo lasts until the crystals get absorbed back in the body on their own – this will last from few days to few weeks
Vertigo can also be due to
Viral labyrinthitis. It is a viral infection again causing inflammation of the balancing organs mentioned above. Here vertigo will settle once the viral infection settles.( about a week or so)
Vertigo can also be due to Meniere’s disease, which results in hearing problems, ringing sound in the ears, feeling pressure in the ears,
vomiting and vertigo. This can be a chronic condition, but with medications, the vertigo can be reduced.
Vertin can help to reduce vertigo. You can increase the dose of your Vertin (
Betahistine). You can initially increase it to 8 mg three times/day and if you are still having the symptoms then you can increase it to 16 mg three times /day. In majority of patients, vertigo is short-lasting. It will settle down in a few days to few weeks. Once you see improvement in your symptoms you can slowly reduce the dose of the tablet and stop it altogether.
I hope this answer has helped you.
Thank you
