How Can Vertigo Be Treated?

I have had vertigo for a while now. It comes and goes. Been on 6 or 7 different meds. Nothing seems to help. I started on meclizine 25 mg. 3 x a day. I started feeling better the first day, which was amazing and surprising to me. How many days should be sufficient to take this med. Is it necessary to take all 30 pills.? Thank you, pj.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi welcome to the health care magic

Meclizine is good drug that is used in vertigo problem

Your cause for vertigo should be searched for thought detail history...

It can be peripheral vertigo or central vertigo

Labyrinthitis, menier disease, neuronitis, infection , BPPV etc are some causes

If vertigo related to particular position then it might be positional vertigo

For Labyrinthitis exercise also beneficial along with medication

Check blood sugar level, HB level, blood pressure for initial work up

If needed vestibular function test will be done If no improvement seen

Complete all prescribed course of Meclizine

Hope your concern solved

Consult otorhinolaryngologist for examination and further work up accordingly
