How Can Vomiting Be Treated?

My 29 yr old son weight 101lbs/53 has been suffering with vomiting for 2 days now. We actually went to medical er ctr two nights ago and at that time he was diagnoised with upper respirtory problem, given a astjma treatment (history of asthma) and said to rest and follow-up with primary doc in 2-3 days. i plan to call that doctor tomorrow but need to know what i can do to help with the vomiting episodes he s now experiencing. Has had no solid food for two days.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

When a patient has vomiting it is very important for him to have fluids as much as possible and keep him hydrated.

The best fluids to use are oral rehydration solutions you can find over the counter in pharmacy and to avoid nausea he needs to take them in frequent small amounts (1-2 sips every 5 minutes).

Eating sometimes is difficult while being nauseous and vomiting but he can try BRAT diet (banana, rice, apple and toast) in frequent small amounts.

If he is not able to keep it or does not want to use it, it is not a problem as long as he is taking oral rehydration solutions and other fluids.

Meanwhile, it is good to follow up with his doctor and maybe he will prescribe some metoclopramide to help with the vomiting.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
