Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
HI, My 5 year old has had vomiting for the past 2 days. Has seen dr yesterday and now on antibiotics (augmentin) and albuterol for early pneumonia. She is happy, alert, been coloring the past few hours, but a bit tired. Refusing to eat much (only a few goldfish crackers all day and similar yesterday). I am urging her to drink and she’s drinking water but I’m afraid not enough. I plan tp push water the next few hours. Her breath smells fruity and she just urinated and her urine looked a bit dark and smelled fruity. Is she in ketosis due to not eating enough? Or dehydrated? She shows no other signs of dehydration. Should I be worried?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
The child is taking the right treatment. I would only suggest to take over the counter ORS solution and drink liquids. The urine is normal to be a little dark due to vomiting and dehydration. It will be normalized in time, so don't worry.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
