How Can Wheezing And Breathing Difficulty Be Treated?

I am a 53 yr old female. A week ago, Thursday, I had a head cold with fever and sore throat. 2 days later, the fever and sore throat were gone. I am weezing, having trouble breathing, have no energy, can t sleep at night due to unproductive cough. Although it is a wet cough and can feel the congestion in my chest, nothing will come up. Went to walk in two days ago. They gave me amoxicillin, pregnazone, an inhaler and cough medicine with codeine but I am still weezing terribly and up all night coughing.

Hi Dear ,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query your son have symptoms of wheezing and breathing difficulty which seems to be due to severe upper respiratory tract infection which gets triggered by certain exaggerating factors. I would suggest you to

- Do warm saline gargles with pinch of salt water.
- Take expectorants.
- Avoid cold carbonated beverages.
- Mast cell stabilizers such as sodium cromoglycate is effective to prevent infection.
- Take benadryl twice a day .
- Steam inhalation is very effective for you.

Consult ENT specialist once without any delay. Doctor may order blood test , throat swab test and may prescribe antibiotics amoxicillin or penicillin at least for 10 days along with decongestants and mucolytic agents. Doctor may also order allergy test .

Hope your concern has been resolved.
