How Dangerous Is Second Hand Smoke From Cigarettes While Experiencing Cough With Phlegm After Complete Recovery From A Heart Attack?

Hi, i am currently in an apartment that the no smoking (in multi-family units) law in Michigan is being ignored. I had a heart attack in 2003, and i am currently experiencing an increase in phlem (sp?) and coughing due to second hand smoke arriving via furnace vents. How dangerous is this to me?

Cardiologist 's  Response
Hello,

Smoking even indirectly may increase your cardiovascular risk. Regarding the coughing and phlegm, I recommend consulting with a pulmonologist and performing a chest X-ray study, inflammation tests and allergy tests.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
