How Do You Treat Severe Cough And Respiratory Infection?
My husband went to doctor today because he was sick with bad cough and upper respiratory infection. The doctor asked him how long has this nodule been on your tonsil? My husband didn't know what he meant and the doctor seemed concerned because my husband said it didn't hurt..So if he had said it hurt would that have been better?Ofcourse he is sending him for biopsie but could the fact that he is sick and has a bad cough cause the nodule?
Thanks for your question in HCM. And yes you should definitely biopsied the nodule. For confirm diagnosis tissue is must , so biopsy is needed. Painful nodule favours infective etiology. Mostly bacterial. And you should also get done chest x ray to rule out lower respiratory tract infection (LRTI) as LRTI is common after URTI. Start dual antibiotics like augmentin and levofloxacin. And wait fof biopsy report. If your husband is tobacco chewer than possibility of malignancy is there. So biopsy is mendatory.
