How Does Aging Have An Effect On The Skin?

my mom is 78 years old and I have just noticed that her hands have transparent skin in such a way that I actually can see her bones through her skin...it really shocked me and I had to look three times to make sure that I actually had seen correctly ...what does this mean? Sue

Hello,

The loss of the elastic tissue (elastin and collagen) in the skin with age causes the skin to hang loosely. ... Skin becomes more fragile as we age. This is caused by a flattening of the area where the epidermis and dermis (layer of skin under the epidermis) come together. Skin becomes more easily bruised.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Esmeralda Sera, Oncologist
