How Does Eating Or Drinking Before A Blood Test Affect The Results?

Alkaline phosphate 138. All other blood tests normal. I had Graves Disease. Swallowed radioactive pill 4 months ago. I drank a Boost, ate banana and plain bagel before CBC. Can that affect results. Should I be concerned? My doctor doesn’t seem overly worried. Thyroid doctor. Thank you!

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Eating food doesn’t alter the blood results like thyroid function test and CBC. You have to be cautious about having food prior to tests like FBS (fasting blood sugar) and FLP (fasting lipid profile).

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain
