Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, my sister-in-law is pregnant and ninth month has already started for her. All these months everything was very much normal. But yesterday when we went for a routine check up, doctor told us that, my sister-in-law is low in amniotic fluids and that she will have to visit the doctor daily. Doctor also told us that we can utmost wait for 10 days and after that we will have to operate her. Doctor suggested to intake as much water as she can and to increase the intake of fluids. Doctor is also been giving some kind of injections from yesterday and also today. Can you please suggest what should be done in such a situation? We are really worried....
Amniotic fluid plays an important role in acting as a buffer and protective system for the baby. It is one of the key factors in assessing the baby's well being. I would advise you not to worry as your sister-in-law's doctor seems to be keeping a close eye on her. Daily visits with measurement of the amniotic fluid and injections to support will help.
It is absolutely normal to deliver at any time post 9 months. Her doctor is still giving her time to go into natural labor but in the absence of that is advising a C-section. I agree with her take on this. C-sections are relatively safe and you and your sister-in-law seem to be in good hands.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pranav Balakrishnan, General & Family Physician
