How Does Posterior Cruciate Ligament Works With The Anterior Cruciate Ligament?

Recently my daughter had ACL surgery using the IT band technique. She has a skeletal age of 11. When the surgery was done the doctor came out and said part of the torn ACL attached to the PCL. He said he left it there and this was a good thing for stabilization. Any thoughts on this and is it really a good thing there we no other injuries to the knee all other parts of the knee were solid. He said surgery went great but was curious on about the ACL being attached to the PCL. I am hopeful this will help her. It was 2 months form injury to surgery. She did PT and had no swelling going into surgery

Hi,

Knee is the biggest joint in the body that helps in movement of the body and bears weight of the body. It is surrounded by the capsule and supported by ligaments, tendons and muscle. Anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments are the ligaments that are attached in the intercondylar fossa connecting the femur and the tibia.

These ligaments control the anterior and posterior movements of the joint. Anterior cruciate ligament controls the extreme anterior movement of the knee and posterior cruciate ligament controls the posterior movement of the joint. IT band has better adaptability to the knee joint. Anterior cruciate ligament is the most common one that is injured. It prevents pop out of the knee joint. Exercise helps to improve the joint mobility.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
