Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, How to ensure, the GP s properly diagnose with the PAD test, as here in UK NHS, they talk of ECG ? Does ECG test for PAD symptoms ? I do get heaviness in Calves of both legs only when climbing steps or stairs but not much while walking plus ECG test earlier showed Reversible Ischemia and Stress test showed positive with 97% chance of 10 yrs survival but Doctor asked me to further go for 2D Echo n use Blood Thinners as a preventive. Also, have Hemmorroids due to which nerves in legs have a cracking sound too. Please advice accordingly !!
Based on the history you have shared, EKG can't detect PAD directly but if any clotting tendency or prothrombotic state is suspected which may lead to thromboembolism in pulmonary vessels or in heart circulation may be detected on EKG.
But for PAD Doppler ultrasound of arterial and venous system of legs is more appropriate. If previously any signs of reversible ischemia have been found, you should have an echocardiogram as well as plan for a thallium scan too.
Meanwhile, blood thinners can be continued however if hemorrhoids are confirmed a surgical opinion can be sought and blood thinners may be reviewed as it may cause increased bleeding tendency.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
