Hi, 7 year ago did thyroid test and the results for my thyroid was high and they prescribed Synthroid and been fine ever since. for about 3 or 4 months I have had symptoms of gaining a lot of weight does Too high level or too low cause weight gain? When I researched asking Google it sent me to a lady talking for at least 30 minutes about something to sell. I listened to the end and send a question to one of her doctors. Nothing was mentioned to get an answer I would have to pay money. I now have wasted an hour of my time. Time I’ll never get back. All I want you to do is tell me about gaining weight connected to thyroid.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Gaining weight may not be due to thyroid disease unless it is being proved clinically, but it is very less likely most of the time the weight gain is due to high calorie diet, no exercise, stress, genetic, medicine or disease of thyroid may have minimal or no role in gaining of weight, for further discussion you can see the endocrinologist.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
