How Likely Is Transmission Possible Assuming Hairdresser Was HIV Positive And Made A Small Cut On The Ear ?

Hi, Hairdresser cut her hand while giving me a haircut. She put a band aid on it and after a couple minutes proceeded to finish cutting my hair. I noticed a small cut on my ear from the scissors. How likely is transmission assuming she was HIV positive? Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome to HCM.

Assuming that the hairdresser is a confirmed case of HIV, risk of HIV infection following exposure will depend upon area of skin involved and volume of infected fluid you are exposed to. Based on the details you have provided, you are exposure code 2 which requires post exposure prophylaxis of atleast two antiretroviral drugs. I suggest you get in touch with a doctor nearby you for assessment of exposure and prescription for antiretrovirals.
Thanks.
