Thank you for your question! I understand how do you feel, but at the first moment I advice you to calm down for a while because your clinical situation doesn't seem problematic at the moment you don't look to have clinically evident cardiac or pulmonary complication, no abnormally high temperature at all; it is true that using iv drugs is one of the minor criteria (Duke criteria) for the diagnosis of right sided
endocarditis, but to rule out this phenomena at the face you have experience such clinical problem before the only thing to do for your routine check up, which would relief your
anxiety it to perform an cardiac
ultrasound (ECHO). By ECHO the right atrio-ventricular valve (
tricuspid valve) can be studied for the presence of possible vegetation, to compare with the previous possible ones, to control for any abnormally new
tricuspid insufficiency, etc.
Regarding the time needed for a pathogen agent to exert a clinically evidence of endocarditis it depend on tne type of pathogen (
staphylococcus, fungi, gram negative organisms, etc) and and on the presence of previous valve envolvement grade..
so to cut it short and clear for you I recommend you to perform an ECHO.
Hope to have been helpful for you. Best regards, Dr. Iliri
