Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My daughter was born at 33 weeks with a suspicion of Mosaic downs syndrome. She had pneumonia shortly after birth. An echo cardiogram was performed at 3 weeks and result show an asd of 0.64cm ostrium primum ASD with intracardiac shunt. She was placed on lasix, captoprine and aldactone anti failure drugs. The echo was repeated after 3 months and the result remains the same. Is surgery required for such and how soon will it be advisable for correction surgery. And is their a possibility of closure to the hole in the heart and how long will she need to be on medication.

How Long Can Lasix And Aldactone Be Taken?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. These medications should be taken as long as your doughter has the symptoms. The medications should not be stopped without cardiologist advice. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
