How Long Can The VRE Bacteria Live On A Contaminated Object?

We have been caring for my mother at her house, she recently passed. She had VRE. We were very careful and took every precaution we could. I am still worried that the bacteria and that it could still be in the house. How long can the VRE bacteria live on a contaminated object?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Vancomycin-Resistant Enterococci bacteria can survive up to two weeks in contaminated objects. You can clean the home and surrounding with detergent soaps and they won’t survive in the presence of soap.

Hope I have answered your query.

Let me know if I can assist you further.
