How Long Do Spasms In The Urethra Last After Removal Of A Stent?

My daughter had a kidney stone blocking the ureter. a stent was placed after a visit to the ER. we then saw her regular Urologist who did a cystoscopy, did not find the stone, and replaced the stent with one she could remove. She removed it but several hours later had terrible pain. We called and were told it is spasms. At the time we gave her pain meds, anti spasm drug , and a warm pack. It helped, but they keep happening. the stent was removed late Friday night. My question is - how long will these spasms continue?

Hi,

It's incredibly variable, about 12 hrs for me last week. You would not expect it to last even a few days. The most likely cause if spasms (of anything) persist, is that something is wrong. Simplest is that the stones are still coming out. We used to have people urinate into a filter to see if stones are continuing.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
