General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Ovulation is the process of release of egg from ovaries. Once a woman starts ovulating, that would be the time to have intercourse. Ovulation strips are available which can be used to know whether you are ovulating or not. Since your eggs have been formed, this would be the right time. I would suggest to be together for 5 to 7 days in order to increase the chances of pregnancy. Ovulation lasts for 12 to 48 hours, but you are potentially fertile for up to seven to 10 days, according to the most optimistic studies. This is because sperm can survive up to five days in the female reproductive tract.

Hope that was helpful. Thank you for asking your question.
