How Long Does Amitriptyline Stay Actively In The System?
i am seeing a consultant neurologist tomorrow. I have been taking 10 mg amitiptyline for 25 days but advised to stop before seeing consultant. This is the second night not taking the tablet. How long will it take to be out of my system and am I likely to have withdrawal affects?
The dose of amitriptyline that you are currently using is small, you may not experience withdrawal symptoms. Withdrawal symptoms are more likely to occur with high doses and prolonged use of medication.
The half life of amitriptyline is 10 to 50 hours. The half life of a drug is the time it takes for the amount of drug in the system to decrease by half. It can take three to four half lives for a drug to be completely eliminated though the levels would be reduced.
This means that it would take approximately thirty to 200 hours (8 days) , for complete elimination.
I hope this helps
